Honoring & Celebrating the Glorious Life of Simon Albert Rodrigues, The Anointed Accountant

Born on February 18, 1959 in Katapady, Karnataka, India
Left for his heavenly abode on May 5, 2021 in Bangalore, Karnataka, India

Simmi, my brother and friend!

I was blessed with a marvelous gift from my Heavenly Father exactly after one year, eleven months, and twenty days! On Wednesday, 18th February, 1959, I was all excited to see lovely, cute baby boy, beside my Mai and this child became more a friend to me than brother. He was none other than Albert Simon Rodrigues!!!! He was popular as Albert in school, as Simon with family, relatives but for me he was Simmi. He was my Pappa’s favourite and I was Mai’s favourite, it’s divine blessing that both of us grew together with perfect understanding, love and respect for one another. In sixty-two years of our lives we never fought with each other either physically or verbally!! Pappa, lovingly used to call him, “Simon, the Quiet,” but I know how “Quiet” he was outside our home, “River View.” He was simple Simon at home, very loving, affectionate and without any demands but in neighborhood, school, church, he was very mischievous. He used to speak without thinking which used to land him in problems with his classmates, friends, neighbours. In my life time I had never fought for myself but I never allowed anyone to hurt, abuse my loving friend, and I would go to any extent even to use my muscle power and vocal strength. But whatever used to happen outside our home, it never came to the knowledge of anyone at home. My memory of my brother and friend Simmi, very cute, slim, wheatish in colour, with sharp nose, brown thin hair and attractive features. He was my darling. His dressing, very unique….shorts with shirts which is always unbuttoned, and without fail he will have a comb in his pocket. Style king! His very special “signature smile” I can never forget. How mischievous he was, one incident I can’t forget. Both of us went to Poorna Prajna College, Udupi for his admission for Pre University. We went inside the cabin of Principal, London qualified, Dr Narayana Rao, and my friend like a big boss comfortably sat in the chair and I was standing, the Principal thought I am seeking admission and asked me questions! Lo and behold, grace and favor of God was upon him, and he got the admission!!! There are many such instances during our childhood days. Today, I can boldly say that me and Simmi had the best childhood days. We continued the same affection and care for one another as we grew. Today, my loving Simmi, gone ahead of me to his eternal home! I will always celebrate the friendship we enjoyed and cherished for I believe in Gospel of John 10.25, “He who believes in Christ, though he may die, he shall live.”

Adeus, my dear brother and friend, Simmi, until we meet again in our Heavenly Father’s home. I am joyfully cherishing your signature smile Simmi and will continue to do so…..

Thank You Heavenly Father for Simmi and his glorious life.

I have had over two decades of association with Br Simon. He was chairman of Bangalore Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services (BCCRS) for long. From my experience he was an 'YES' man always. He never felt comfortable to say "No' to any body and to anybody's requests and invitations. I have good memory of attending his bible classes a few years back. Every Friday he used to take classes for a dozen persons both men and women. And he was always systematic in anything he did. Br Simon was a good preacher and he was crisp and candid. He was fluent in his talks and to the point, never fumbling for words unlike many preachers. He was clear and knew what he was talking and quoting the bible with relevant verses. I was personally fortunate to attend his prayer meetings at various places and on different occasions. Br Simon was good at speaking to people in the face even if he disagreed with someone's view point. He was friendly with people. When he wanted to express his displeasure he could put across the matter without any offence and with a smile. Br Simon used to reply to any e-mails or WhatsApp messages without delay and always acknowledged anybody's appreciation of his achievements, services including talks and preaching. This is all from experience. Of late, his rare and unique photos appeared in the facebook and when commented, remarked, liked and thanked, he was happy. Br Simon Rodrigues was concerned about the indiscipline in the Church and among clergy. He went to the parishes in the city and outskirts with a small band of persons to pray for peace and unity in the Church and among people in the Archdiocese. I was edified from that experience and admired him to be one of them in the team. Simon Brother was never afraid to speak the truth and to present facts from the bible and from his general thinking but pertinent to the occasion. He was close to archbishop emeritus Bernard Moras and Fr Jacob Britto, the spiritual director of BCCRS. He was more like a friend to them. That helped him to achieve much in the spiritual realm either to organise programmes or to conduct retreats and such other activities. It was his great desire to build a retreat centre for archdiocese of Bangalore and his dream came through when it came up at Ulsoor, though more facilities have to be added which is the look out of the present archbishop, Peter Machado. Br Simon has left behind a lot of materials for generations to benefit and enrich their lives. Br Simon was comfortable in the company of people of other faiths and felt at ease with them. God gave him sufficient time to prepare himself for the final journey as thousands of people prayed for him, though God's will was different. He will pray for all his friends. Let me confidently say his soul rests in peace and our loving God has granted him perpetual light upon Br Simon. He will continue to live in the hearts of many, including me. I thank God for the gift of Br Simon. Heart felt Condolences to his wife and children. God bless them. C V Joseph

Bro Simon was my role model. I first met him at our youth group where he came to preach. After the preaching Bro Simon laid his hands and prayed over each young person in the room and spoke many prophecies. When Bro Simon prayed over me, I felt the mighty power of the Holy Spirit. He spoke three prophecies over my life , all of which have come true today. That day was a turning point in my life. Because of Bro Simon's prayers, I am who I am today.
